15 “Best Practices” To Engage Customers On Facebook

Nearly everyday I’m asked about how to build fans and engage customers on Facebook.  Engaging the Social car buyer is getting a lot of air time these days…and for good reason. The more car buyers that migrate to the Social web, the more that engagement becomes a priority for dealerships. It’s not enough to simply put up a Facebook page and wait for your customer to find you.  You must lay out a clear content plan for attracting your audience and building your community.

Social Media has rocked our world at dealerships.  Buying a car is no longer a “transactional” relationship.  It’s now one of trust and engagement.  Fundamentally, it’s about the customer experience and, positive or negative, experience trumps everything else. Your claims of “bigger” and “best” mean nothing when your customers have friends who are telling them otherwise.  Here are 15 Facebook “best practices” to attract and engage the right fans:

1. Post frequently to keep content fresh. 2-3 times per day is ideal.

2. Make your page interactive by asking questions in your posts. Stick to subjects that are relevant to your audience and your store.

3. The Share and Like buttons have become powerful tools.  Include these on your website and blog to foster sharing and make it easier for your customer to engage with you and their network.

4. Mix in the use of other media to help engage.  Video testimonials are particularly useful in making content personal and building trust.

5. Personal connections are powerful. Personalize status updates using “real ” humans…use names and other personalization often.

6. Sharing is caring. Recognize and promote local heroes, members of the community and causes you support.

7. If you have a dealership blog (and you should!) syndicate it on Facebook. It builds credibility and enhances SEO because of it’s fresh content and keywords.

8. Everyone likes free stuff. Infuse your content with coupons, discounts, even Service specials. BUT, don’t overdue it. It’s about community not broadcasting.

9. Deal with negativity openly and clearly. This is your chance to show the community how you make things right for your customers.

10. Include Facebook links and tags in all of your traditional media. Make it easy for customers to find you.

11. Measure and analyze your results to remain consistent with improving your customer’s Facebook experience.

12. Encourage your offline customers to become fans. Put signage up and train your staff to promote your Facebook page.

13. Add value to the conversation: Bring in outside content that’s relevant, recent and local.

14. Always respond to comments quickly. It’s a conversation and people expect a timely reply.

15. If you make a mistake (and you most certainly will) apologize.  Social Media is about transparency. Admit the mistake and move on.

Is your dealership’s Facebook page getting results?  Have you been able to sell cars on Social Media? I’d love to hear about it.

From Dan Rudd:

I have heard this from 3-4 people today. Looks like a Spam Scam. Notice that this was sent to me by Jet Chevrolet but it was sen to rxxxxxl@uvwaudi.com and landed in Matt’s inbox at Jet?

New tool added:

This one is a bit complicated to explain, so bare with me.

When you post a vehicle in the advanced tool you will have 4 choices to select prices.

1) The regular “text” where you can enter a new price manually or select from the 3 fields existing in the system.

Then you have 3 “image” choices:

2) Image – Internet Price Field
3) Image – Retail Price Field
4) Image – Sticker Price Field

The new image fields will add the price as an image to the template so when you change the price in diamondlot/Autobase it will update in Craig’s List in real time. So if you posted a car 10 times, the price will be automatically updated for that car in all 10 postings.

Some templates such as the “text only” template may not work for this tool.

Please note that the price will only update in the body of the listing and not if you also add it to the posting tittle. However, if a customer sees a price in the tittle and then a lower price in the body, that may be nothing but positive.

This waill allow you to change a price on a Friday at 1pm for example and make something happen that very same day!

Please test at your own discretion and email me if you see any bugs.

Social Media

Tyrannybook.com

Powered by Amnistia Internacional Portugal, Tyrannybook.com aims to promote global awareness against tyrans worlwide.

Without the purpose of making any political statements, I thought it would be interesting to see a completelly different development in Social Media and how it can be used outside what we are used to (Facebook and Twitter!).

I think Facebook has opened a door to awareness of what the Internet can do to build connections and better share information but we haven’t seen yet what this can offer. A lot of new developments wait for us in the future of SM.

AutoTrader.com’s Trade In Marketplace:

Here is a pick to Autotrader’s new program:

1) AutoTrader.com’s Trade In Marketplace Explained (video link).
2) Atlanta Business Journal: AutoTrader rolls out used-car pricing system.

My opinion:

“Read the small print in the program… it will work only for a few cars. No people upside down, no really old, no really new, etc.

The customer has to go to the dealer to get the final offer and inspect the car whichmay deter some customers.

However, I think it will do very well for some dealers that deal in that particular price/trade range.”

My friend Jeff’s opinion:

Yago, it’s working, it’s in over 300 dealers and they’re limiting the amount of dealers on the initial offering, it will be rolled out nationally at NADA in Feb.

As for the price guarantee it is subject to an inspection, which means the value could go up as easily as go down depending on how accurate their description was.

Seattle is the last marketplace they will be going into which will be July/aug.

This has been in development for ten years and in pilot since 2007, think what you like but TIM is coming and going to change the game, I’ve seen it up close and it is up and working, no gimmick.

Backed by the guy with the biggest balls in the business, keep reading you’ll get it!

Legal

Open WIFI:

The German Supreme Court declared that one of their citizens is responsible for the pirate downloads from her WIFI that was left open while she was on vacation.

Not that this will happen here but its a good reminder to make sure your free WIFI for the service customers, etc is secured.
